Born and raised in Metro Detroit, Julie Vu aspired from a young age to pursue a career in fashion design. This led her to becoming majorly involved in art classes and clubs throughout her youth eventually completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at one of the top-ranking fashion schools in the country, Kent State University.

It would be her senior BFA collection that would catch the eye of Abercrombie & Fitch recruiters and would lead to her being signed on after graduation.

Following 1 ½ years of successfully managing several different categories on the Abercrombie Girl’s design team – even leading the Girl’s Fleece Tops and Knit Bottoms teams to have their best season of sales yet – Vu would part ways with the company in search of something new to further her skillset and range in design.

Her next role in footwear and accessories at RG Barry/CPG (Columbus Product Group) would become the perfect next step. The experience not only continued building upon the very strong foundation of leadership and design skills that she had been developing at Abercrombie Kids, but with a smaller design team, each new project would push the boundaries of her creativity as well as her abilities in project management.

After 2 years of working within the industry, Vu decided it would be a great idea to take some time away in order to pursue a desire that had been on the back burner. While working, she had been exposed to various 3D design software and was very interested in expanding her technical skills in this field.

It all seemed like fate when The Cut Fashion Design Academy offered her a $2,000 scholarship in order to enroll in their 3D certification program. The rigorous 14-week program would give her an in-depth education in three of the most popular 3D apparel design software – Gerber AccuMark CAD, CLO 3D, and Browzwear 3D.

With these new 3D fashion design skills under her belt, Vu finally feels ready to take on a new role and hopes to join a team that continues to further her curiosity, knowledge, capability, and perspective in fashion design.

In five to ten years, Vu would love to start her own brand. In the far future, she would like to give back and help teach/mentor the next generation of young fashion designers.

Outside of work, Vu loves to travel and explore new cities and sights, try new activities, as well as simply enjoying the comfort and company of her close friends and family.
