Painted Ink for Tibi Pre-Fall 2020 delves into the art of Irezumi, an ancient form of Japanese tattoo and artwork. While currently widely associated with the Japanese mafia, or Yakuza, Irezumi originated long before.

Developed 12,000 years ago, Irezumi has truly become an integral part of Japan’s artistic history. Once done to ward off evil spirits, this form of tattoo takes direct inspiration from Japanese folklore, pulling on motifs such as dragons, demons, and cherry blossoms.

As a collection created for Tibi, Painted Ink combines the brand’s unique fabrication and style with motifs and silhouettes from Irezumi tattoos and paintings. It continues to push Tibi forward, developing new and unique hardware, prints, and leather pieces.
